Our Philosophy at the Clean Health Project

Clean Health Defined

The philosophy of Clean Health is based on the following:

Eat YOUR Vegetables:  You may have grown up hating them, but it’s hard to argue with the MANY benefits (e.g., lower blood pressure, reduced risk of heart disease, lower risk of some cancers, etc.) of a diet that is high in fruits and vegetables.  Aim to have vegetables comprise at least half of each meal.

LIMIT Processed Foods:  How many of the ingredients on the back of your food packages do you recognize? My guess would be probably not many.  Processed foods contain high and hidden levels of sugar, preservatives and flavor enhancers.  Avoid processed foods as much as possible, especially those with empty calories and low nutritional value.

Prepare your OWN Food: One of the easiest ways to make sure you are eating "real" food is to purchase and prepare it yourself. While a lot of people are wary of cooking, once you get the hang of it and a few staple recipes under your belt… you’ll be ready to go!

Buy FRESH: While it depends where you live and if you have access to stores like Whole Foods or a local farmers market, buying in season produce is an easy way to eat fresh without breaking the bank.  In general, the less time your food spends from the farm to your table the better.

MOVE Regularly:  Whether it’s a fast paced walk, lifting weights or yoga it’s important for you to exercise your body on a daily basis. From the many benefits including lower cardiovascular risk, better sleep, less stress or improved cognitive function, exercise can have many positive health effects. Aim to move your body (in the ways you enjoy most) at least one hour a day.
